Requested by my husband~ a custom background for his mobile phone. Acutally this should be a happy picture but I don't feel well about my art atm so yeah-... I wanted to get my mind out of that usual crap I am drawing.
This is cute as fuck, I want to like...drop-kick something small right in the face out of pure joy of finding this.
I immediately thought of asking if I could download this and use this as a wallpaper for my phone- That was before I read the description also.
:: Vision :: I gave this a top score for the obvious grasp of story-telling you have presented in this piece. All the elements you've used in this piece make you feel for little Pikachu. The proportions of Pikachu make him adorable and that much more vulnerable to the gloomy background. The color palette is wickedly well chosen for this also.
:: Originality :: Although Pikachu is such an overdone pokemon and just an iconic cliche- in my opinion this was a very original rendering of him. Most pieces of Pikachu are very happy and one-emotion type of characters. As much as my heart sinks a little for him, I'm nearly relieved to see him with more range than happy and pissed.
:: Technique :: This I also had to give a higher score. The color palette was well chose, the composition lends artistic value to every aspect of the piece, the story-telling is awesome, and the overall execution is fuckin righteous. The only things I think I would have experimented with were maybe taking a little of the glare out of Pikachus eyes and bringing the value of the shading on his body down. Maybe at the darkest point- like where his leg would be leaving the bottom of his body near the leaf stem in shadow- a darker shade.
:: Impact :: This I had to give top score to as well. The sheer emotion that comes from this piece is definitely a five-star rating in my opinion. The "awww" factor in this is priceless and the execution of art principles only adds to the badassness of this piece.
I personally think that this is an amazing piece of artwork.
I specifically like the contrast in colour between Pikachu and its gloomy surroundings and environment. I also like how you used the weather to symbolize Pikachu's feeling of loneliness and isolation. Pikachu is also shielding itself with a leaf, this shows how small Pikachu must be feeling. I really like how you've cleverly used the scenery to display Pikachu's emotions. Therefore, I gave you a 5/5 for impact.
In addition, I really like the shading and perspective. Even though it's 2D, it does look as if it's 3D. Therefore, I gave you a 5/5 for technique.
Oh I love this piece, it's really cute. I love the detail work on it from the blades of grass in the foreground, to the raindrops on his leaf umbrella to the little reflection in the pool. I think the muted colours and the shadow work is excellent through and through on this piece. The one negative thing I will say that the way the rain effect lays over the picture makes one of his cheeks look slightly smudged, but I really had to look at it a while to notice it. Really great job
Aww..who could ever resist those eyes I really just wanna scoop him up and snuggle x3 Really lovely picture, great coloring, reflects the mood very well, and it's so damn cute too
